If you collect the DNA samples yourself, then the test results cannot be used in court as evidence. They are simply for your own information, and known as ‘peace of mind’ tests. That is because there has been no proper ‘chain of custody’ of the samples, and their source cannot therefore be proved beyond reasonable doubt.
